Bjørn Nørgaard (1947-) Danish sculptor, graphic artist and performance artist. He was a student at Eks-skolen (The Eksperimental Artschool) where he also meet Joseph Beuys and subsequently worked with. Bjørn Nørgaard compares Ex-school with Andy Warhol's The Factory.
He was professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts 1985-1994.
Bjørn Nørgaard became known for a horse sacrifice, in connection with the disputed Exhibition Tabernacle in Louisiana in 1970, a film was made over it, Hesteofring.
One of Bjørn Nørgaard great works of art is 17 tapestries over Denmark's history, suspended at Christiansborg Place. Queen Margrethe II decided to use a gift from the organization Danish Industri on the occasion of her 50th birthday to produce a series of tapestries tracing the history of Denmark from the beginnings to the present day. The tapestries were based on Nørgaard's full-sized sketches.
